Kings health officials changing its COVID-19 testing days to Tuesday to Saturday

The Kings County Department of Public Health is changing its COVID-19 testing currently located at the Day Reporting Center at 1520 Kings County Drive in Hanford. Starting the week of August 18, 2020 testing at this site will be available from Tuesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The adjustment was made to accommodate Kings County residents unable to seek testing Monday through Friday.

Appointments are still required, and Kings County residents can register at www.lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling (888) 624-1123. Additionally, the County call center is still available to support anyone seeking referrals, information, and assistance with registration for the OptumServe testing site. The call center is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can be reached at (559) 852-4300. Assistance is also available in Spanish.

Individuals can also seek testing through their primary care provider if they are experiencing symptoms and/or have been in contact with a confirmed case. Please contact your primary care provider for guidance and instructions for testing.

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) has resumed providing COVID-19 updates on its website, www.kingscovidinfo.com after having experienced data reporting issues and delays with the State’s disease registry system, CalREDIE. The California Department of Public Health discovered an underreporting of COVID-19 cases due to technology issues with CalREDIE.

The issues faced by CalREDIE did not delay patient notification or care as it relates to their COVID-19 status. The data reported by the KCDPH has been impacted by the CalREDIE delays and will be updated as far back as July 25, 2020, once the issue is resolved. State officials hope to have this issue resolved by the end of this week. The scale and scope of data being collected due to COVID-19 is unprecedented and KCDPH staff are working to ensure residents have an accurate and complete picture of the situation in Kings County.

The County continues to stress the importance of following best practices known to limit the spread of communicable diseases. The following actions can prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Kings County and help protect residents from respiratory illnesses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands.
  • Stay in your home as much as possible.
  • Wear a facemask or covering, and practice physical distancing of at least six feet if it is necessary to leave your home.
  • Limit close contact, like kissing and sharing cups or utensils, with people who are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
