Assembly's Salas applauds budget. Included is $2 million for a Lemoore Emergency Response Center

Included in the array of projects is a $2 million allocation for the Emergency Response Center for the City of Lemoore.

With $25 billion in reserves, this historic and balanced budget includes major wins that will create positive changes in the Valley by building bridges, investing in the local workforce, reforming the Employment Development Department (EDD), and putting funds towards clean water projects.

“This a historic budget that delivers major wins to the Central Valley,” said Assemblymember Salas. “This budget invests in Californians and the state’s future. These historic investments will build California back stronger for our children and our community by establishing the nation’s largest “rainy day” fund reserve, constructing new clean water wells, building bridges for kids to walk safely to school, fixing our roads, and more. These projects will have long-lasting and meaningful impacts on our communities for decades to come.”

Some important budget items include:

Local projects:

• $15 million for the Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Cultural Center to be located in Bakersfield.
• $14 million for a new multi-purpose building at the Bakersfield College, Delano campus.
• $6 million for the Nursing and Health Professional Program at CSU Bakersfield.
• $2 million to Kings County for the Kettleman City Pedestrian bridge.
• $2 million for the Emergency Response Center in the City of Lemoore.
• $2 million for a Cooling Center in the City of Avenal.
• $1.5 million for the City of Corcoran for a new water well.
• $1.3 million for the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation Skill Center in Kern County.
• $642,000 for adult education programs at the hospitals served by the Kern Community College District.

Statewide:

• $25 billion in the budget rainy day fund.
• $12 billion in funding for homelessness programs.
• $6 billion for building broadband infrastructure and expanding service.
• $5.1 billion for the Community College system and adult education programs.
• $2.7 billion for the expansion of universal transitional kindergarten.
• $6.3 billion for regional centers.
• $1.46 billion for clean drinking water.
• Increasing childcare slots by over 206,000.
• $1.5 billion in small business assistance for a total investment of $4 billion.
• $1 billion for wildfire response and preparation.
• $663 million for drought relief, multi-benefit projects, conveyance, and sustainable groundwater.
• $600 million for the Community Economic Resiliency Fund for workforce training in underserved areas.
• $352.6 million for additional workforce training programs.
• $276.3 million per AB 56 (Salas) for additional EDD staff to address case backlogs.
• $253 million for STEM teacher training.
• $200 million for drought relief and response in small communities.
• $100 million for water conveyance.
• $86.5 million for clean trucks, buses, and off-road equipment.
• $15 million for childcare nutrition.
• $10.3 million General Fund to the Gun Violence Reduction Grant Program.
