Lemoore’s historic Sarah A. Mooney Museum is bringing Lemoore’s notables back to life again – sort of – during the museum’s annual “Legends of Lemoore Cemetery Walk.”  The unique event is slated for Saturday, September 25, as the Lemoore Cemetery transforms itself when local actors and volunteers endeavor to bring the city’s notables to life as costumed actors portray seven of Lemoore’s early citizens.

This year’s tour will feature local notables, Fook Wah Loy Lee, Eloise, Genevieve Reed, Stella Hatch Brownstone, John Brothers, John McGlashan, and Henry Dickenson.  All seven of these Lemoore fixtures were born in the 1800s.

Fook Wah Loy Lee was active in the Lemoore business community. Stella Hatch Brownstone was a capable businesswoman who assisted greatly in the success of Bownstone’s Department Store in downtown Lemoore.  John Brothers worked tirelessly to improve the community and county while running the Italian Swiss Colony winery operation.

John McGlashan worked along with John Brothers in improving the city’s schools, water, sewage treatment, paved roads, and sidewalks.  Henry Dickenson served 37 years as Lemoore's Chief of Police and returned time after time and was known for doing the job and caring for his “Patrons.”  The Reed sisters’ background was show biz, trouping through musical comedy, vaudeville, repertory, and silent films.

Would-be Lemoore historians may recognize some local actors, some hailing from The Kings Players and long-time museum volunteers.  Fook Loy Lee will be portrayed by his grandson.

According to the museum’s president and event chair, Mike Betcher, the event couldn’t be held without its board members and volunteer actors. “We couldn’t produce our event without the assistance of Louella Moreland, who does the casting and works with the actors; Bill Black, who selects and researches the characters." The Lemoore High School NJROTC is also helping out with the logistics.
