Lemoore and Kings County Assemblyman Rudy Salas is lauding an Assembly bill that he says will ratify a tribal-state compact between the state and the Santa Rosa Rancheria-Yokut Tribe near Lemoore.  The new agreement will help promote economic development, create local jobs, and invest in road and fire station improvement projects.

AB 957 passed with bipartisan support and was signed into law by Governor Newsom on September 24, 2021.

“I am pleased that California has once again renewed its commitment to a strong relationship with the

Tachi-Yokut Tribe will contribute to our local economy and provide new job opportunities,” said Assemblymember Salas. “This compact will bring jobs, economic growth, and community projects that will benefit Valley families.”

The Santa Rosa Indian Community of the Santa Rosa Rancheria is a federally recognized tribe of Tachi-Yokut people located southeast of Lemoore, California. In 1934, the Santa Rosa Rancheria was established on about forty acres of desolate farmland. The Santa Rosa Rancheria has since grown in size and now employs more than seven hundred people at its Tachi Palace Casino and Resort. The Tribe provides health care, housing, and education programs that benefit non-tribal members as well as the larger Kings community.

The Tribe has created opportunities for Kings County through community programs including scholarship assistance, job training, and adult education programs, health and welfare assistance, social services, community maintenance and development, as well as economic development opportunities, and clean drinking water projects for local schools.

The Tribe has also committed to assisting in road improvement projects and will be investing $900,000 to Kings County through an Intergovernmental Agreement and will be providing over half the expenses for maintenance of a local fire station.
