Longtime Kings County District 1 Supervisor Joe Neves now has at least two challengers in the upcoming June 7 primary. Former Lemoore councilmember and mayor, Eddie Neal, announced recently that he has thrown his hat into the race for supervisor.

Neal served two full terms on the Lemoore City Council before deciding to step down.

Stratford’s Martin Chavez, University of Merced grad and Stratford Public Utilities District board member has also announced his intention to run for the supervisor’s seat, which encompasses Stratford and much of Lemoore.

Neal announced his candidacy via Facebook where he posted a missive stating his reasons for running.

“I am officially running for County of Kings Board of Supervisors,” he wrote, nearly every sentence encompassed by colorful Facebook emojis.

In his long message, Neal cites many of the issues he supported or fought for while on the council, such issues as his support for the police and fire department, damaged sidewalks, and his support for Naval Air Station Lemoore.
