Bank of America awards Adventist Health $10,000 in support of health scholars

During a recent check presentation, officials from Adventist Health in the Central Valley led Bank of America representatives on a tour of the Hanford hospital and introduced them to three current Health Scholars.

“We are incredibly grateful to Bank of America for these funds, which will be used to pay for students’ program tuition,” said Lauren Day, philanthropy executive at Adventist Health in the Central Valley. “This contribution will provide our Scholars some financial relief, allowing them to focus on completing the program in 15 months or less.”

During the COPE Health Scholar Program, students receive training on proper bedside etiquette, taking vitals, bathing a patient, and more. It also provides continuing health care education in the form of workshops and professional development events. The program is offered year-round.
“Really, it’s about workforce development and being able to create opportunities for people to earn a living wage,” said Mark Riley, Fresno-Visalia president for Bank of America. “So, this is a great opportunity to drive both of those objectives and promote healthcare as well.”

“This program has opened up many doors for me as it allows me to navigate my way throughout a hospital, something I know for a fact I would’ve greatly struggled with,” said Maria Vasquez, a COPE Health Scholar who was hired as an emergency department technician while still enrolled in the program. “It has allowed me to get my foot in the door and gain the experience I need to provide the best care possible for my patients.”
