Lemoore Union Elementary School District seeks trustee to serve on local school board
A pair of other candidates, Jerry Waymire (Area 3) and Mark Pescatore (Area 4), are running unopposed on the five-member board. Board trustee Ed Mendes (in District 1), who was up for reelection this year, opted not to run again.
Other board members included Stephen Todd (Area 5) and Dr. Gail Crooms (Area 2), both of whom will be up for reelection in 2024.
According to the local school district, the existing board “intends to make an appointment to fill the vacancy.
The growing elementary school district comprises five elementary schools (Cinnamon, Freedom, P.W. Engvall, Lemoore Elementary, and Meadow Lane) and Liberty Middle School. The school district also operates the University Charter School. And Bridges Academy.
The district stated in a release that to be eligible for an appointment, the potential candidate must meet a litany of requirements, including:
- Be 18 years old or older
- Be a citizen of California
- Be a registered voter
- Be a resident of the Lemoore Union Elementary School District
- Be a resident of Trustee Area 1
- And not be disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding office
According to school officials, letters have been sent to eligible residents who live in the vacant district (Trustee Area 1). Any qualified resident who lives in Area 1 and meets the qualifications and desires to serve the district’s students is invited to apply for the appointment.
Applications are available on the school district’s website at https://www.luesd.k12.ca.us or from the district’s office at 1200 W. Cinnamon Drive in Lemoore. Completed applications and any supporting materials must be received by the district officials by mail, attention Cheryl Hunt, 100 Vine Street, Lemoore, Ca 93245. Applications can also be emailed to Hunt at board2022@myluesd.net no later than 12 pm. on Friday, October 7.
The LUESD Board intends to consider and make appointments at the monthly board meeting on October 11.
