Lemoore and the Central Valley seem to have initially survived what weather forecasters call an atmospheric river of water that struck much of California, including Northern California, on Wednesday and Thursday.

While dark storm clouds seemed to threaten Lemoore and other parts of the Central Valley on Thursday, far less rain had fallen than anticipated in the San Joaquin Valley as of Thursday morning (Jan. 5).

However, other parts of California were pounded with more than 2 inches of rain, including the Bay Area, where rain and windstorms left nearly 80,000 people without power.

Local weather services predict high temperatures in the 50s with expected showers at probably 90 percent and thunderstorms likely with rain and clouds for the next two weeks.

According to the Hanford Weather Forecast, a few strong thunderstorms are possible throughout Central California from 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, from approximately 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Weather experts warn that if you hear thunder or see lightning go indoors immediately and wait 30 minutes after the last thunder to resume outdoor activities.
