Kings County Democrats host June 16 Water Town Hall in Hanford

The event, taking place on June 16, 2023, at 6 p.m., at the Hanford Civic Auditorium, will feature a panel of distinguished speakers from various backgrounds, all with expertise in California's water crisis. Among the featured speakers is Mark Arax, an award-winning investigative journalist and author of The Dreamt Land: Chasing Water and Dust Across California. He also co-authors The King of California: J.G. Boswell and the Making of A Secret American Empire. Also speaking is Daniel J. O’Connell, Director of Central Valley Partnership & Co-Author, In the Struggle: Scholars and the Fight Against Industrial Agribusiness in California.

Additionally, Kings County Supervisor Doug Verboon will provide updates on the current state of water management in the county.

The Kings County Democrats organized the event and aim to provide information and insight into the complex water crisis facing the region. Attendees will learn about the challenges and potential solutions to problems such as the distribution and allocation of water resources, the impact of mountain snow melting on Tulare Lake, and the threat of flooding to Corcoran and its prisons.

As townspeople and farmers look to the future, the question of how water can be allocated to ensure everyone has what they need to live, work, and farm is paramount. This town hall aims to provide answers and solutions that will help the community thrive in the years to come.
