The Lemoore Chamber of Commerce board of directors appointed Jenny MacMurdo its executive director Aug. 28. The action was taken during a closed session prior to the board's regularly scheduled August meeting. MacMurdo had been serving as an interim director since April when former executive director, Maureen Azevedo, went out on medical leave.

"The Lemoore Chamber of Commerce board of directors has a new vision for the future. Jenny has proven herself as someone who shares that vision as we continue to provide our members with quality service," said Michele Costa, chairman of the chamber’s board of directors.
MacMurdo is from Lincoln, IL and graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She has a background in theatrical directing and university teaching. She chose to move to Lemoore to be close to her brother, a Lt. Commander stationed at NAS Lemoore for four years. Jenny has enjoyed putting down roots in Lemoore and learning the community.

“One big thing that I want to focus on,” said MacMurdo, “is reaching our members  because I feel we have so many members and there are only a few of us - there’s only two staff members - and it’s difficult to get to all of them (members) on a regular basis. So I want to make sure we reach out to everyone, so that’s why I re-started the Ambassador Program, so that we can make sure that we’re making contact.”

MacMurdo says the Chamber has many services to offer members and it seemed to her that the membership wasn’t taking advantage of them. She hopes to remedy that situation as the new executive director.

She’s only been in Lemoore about a year now, but she’s taken to it. “I really think the community is growing,” she said. “It’s on a growing trend, especially with what’s going on with NAS Lemoore. We have an advantage there in the sense that NAS Lemoore is bringing more business and bringing more people.”

She said the chamber should take advantage of that new growth. She said the more we’re able to attract people here, the better.
