Kings Christian High School comes from behind to win Central Section 8-Man championship over visiting Fresno Christian Eagles
All appeared lost for Kings Christian as they fought to preserve a perfect 11-0 season and win its 18th in a row when the visiting Fresno team led 43-15 at the half. The Eagles may have begun celebrating too early. The Crusaders came alive in the second half, scoring 42 second half points to edge Fresno Christian for the league title. Early in the final period the Crusaders tied the game at 43, but Fresno scored again for a 50-43 lead.
Kings rallied again to tie it at 50-50, then finally took a 57-50 game late into the fourth quarter. Fresno, in its final possession scored, but a remarkable play by Kings Christian's Maiya Garcia left the Eagles a point short, which accounted for the game's final difference. Garcia managed to get by his defender and block the extra-point try.
The Crusaders managed to wrap up their second consecutive Central Sierra league title and third in four years, completing an 11-0 season and winning their 18th game in a row.
Earlier this season, the Crusaders beat Fresno Christian 37-28 at Fresno Christian.
