Tiger boys hold on to beat El Diamante to remain unbeaten in West Yosemite League

Lemoore's 11-5 varsity boys' basketball team is gunning for a West Yosemite League showdown with Hanford Friday, Jan. 23, but they'll have to get past Golden West Wednesday. Lemoore remained unbeaten in the WYL with a 50-48 win over El Diamante Thursday night in the Event Center. The Bullpups are also unbeaten in league play. Both teams are 4-0.

Lemoore's girls won a pair of games last week, a 73-14 win over Mt. Whitney, and on Thursday a 61-43 victory over El Diamante to improve to 3-1 in the WYL.

Mt. Whitney

Led by Jaylunn English's 27 points, Lemoore's vaunted varsity boys basketball team remained unbeaten in the West Yosemite League with a 3-0 record. The Tigers had a 42-26 halftime lead and held on to beat Mt. Whitney 78-69. Lemoore improved to 10-5 on the season with a Thursday matchup with El Diamante looming Thursday night in the LHS Event Center.

Lemoore improved to 2-0 after humbling visiting Redwood last Thursday night 83-60. In Visalia, Lemoore's girls fell to 1-1 in league play after losing 59-35 to the Rangers.

The dynamic duo of Allen Perryman and Jaylunn English combined for 41 points as the Tigers took charge early, jumping out to a 12-0 lead before the Rangers managed to wake up. It was Perryman, who finished with 21 points in the game and English with 20, that scored the Tigers initial 12 points. It was a 3-pointer by English that supplied the finishing touches on Lemoore's early run.

Jerald Campbell scored and connected on a free throw to run the score to 17-2 before English pushed his way inside for an offensive rebound and two points for a 19-2 advantage. The Tigers held a 26-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and they weren't about to relinquish it.

English's slam dunk off an offensive rebound handed Lemoore a commanding 41-23 lead and by halftime the Tigers were up 48-25. Campbell finished with 12 points while Spencer Stinger and Spencer Lambert contributed eight and seven points respectively.

The Tiger boys ended their preseason play Tuesday night with a 67-56 win over visiting Dinuba High. Lemoore improved to 8-5 on the year and are 1-0 in the WYL. The girls are 8-5 overall and 1-0 in WYL action and will travel to Visalia for a matchup with the Rangers. The Lemoore girls’ varsity also proved victorious, beating Dinuba 56-26.
