Lemoore’s Michael Burke wants the state record, and if things keep going the way they have, he may just do it. One thing’s for sure, he’s the odds on favorite to win the high jump at the California State Track and Field Meet later this spring. He currently leads the state with a 7-1 effort. On Friday, at the 60th Kiwanis Track and Field Meet, Burke easily won, though it wasn’t with his best performance of the year. The talented senior high jumper cleared 6-8 but couldn’t quite do what he did in an earlier meet, clear 7-0.
At another location in Tiger Stadium, pole vaulter Tyson Pereira was cementing his legacy in a long line of Lemoore High School pole vaulters by clearing 14-2, the best mark so far in the Central Section.
Despite Burke and Pereira’s exploits, the Tiger boys managed to finish fourth overall with 44 points. Clovis took top honors with 93 points. On the girls’ side Edison won top honors while Lemoore’s ladies finished eighth overall.
Kings Christian Nico Hudson continued his winning ways in the discus, winning the Kiwanis event with a throw of 162-6.
