Jordan Koelewyn and Gareth Evans, two members of the West Hills College Lemoore men’s golf team, have qualified as individuals for the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship on May 11.

While the WHCL team did not qualify at the Northern California Regional Championship recently, Koelewyn and Evans put in scores that did qualify them as individuals with scores of 79/68 and 76/76 respectively.

“This is what they’ve worked for this whole season,” said Coach Dave Neer. “That’s the final big event for golf during the season. It’s a big one. That’s where it all ends. They have a chance to become the California state champion.”

Koelewyn was also named Most Valuable Player for the Central Valley Conference and had the lowest scoring average for the conference, 70.2.

“I just have to work hard this week,” Koelewyn said. “I’m not quite where I want to be but I think it will be close. I think there’s a good chance I could win state individually although it’s unfortunate the team can’t be there. But I’ll be playing for the guys.”

The state championship will be held at the Kings River Golf and Country Club in Kingsburg.
