On February 1, 2016, the good Lord took his faithful servant, Donald J. Warkentin home. Don was the most amazing husband, father, and friend anyone could be blessed to know. Don was raised in Reedley, CA by his loving parents Vern and Doris Warkentin. Don graduated from Reedley High School and continued to Reedley College. He transferred to Chico State where he met his beautiful wife Betty.

It was an emotional night for a West Hills Lemoore basketball team that didn’t have its biggest supporter cheering from his bleacher seat Wednesday night. Recently retired President Don Warkentin, who unexpectedly passed away Monday, was perhaps the team’s biggest fan, having rarely missed a game during the team’s 4 years of existence. Services have been scheduled for Don Warkentin, the recently retired president of West Hills College Lemoore, who passed away suddenly on Monday. Warkentin was 69 years old and had been president of the college since 2004. He retired December 31. Family members announced that a viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, from 5 pm. to 7 p.m. at South Valley Community Church in Lemoore. On Saturday, a public graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. at the Lemoore Cemetery. Finally, a Celebration of Life will be held following the graveside service, at the Golden Eagle Arena on the West Hills Lemoore campus. The Celebration is expected to begin around 12 noon. After one period, it looked as if the West Hills College Lemoore women’s’ basketball team had a cake walk on its hands in Saturday’s Central Valley Conference game against Merced College. The Lady Golden Eagles, displaying some deft touches inside the paint and solid outside shooting, were enjoying a big lead in the first period, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the opening minutes.
