West Hills College Lemoore’s women’s basketball team took an unexpected detour towards its first every Central Valley Conference title Wednesday night in Visalia when it unexpectedly lost to College of the Sequoias 79-44.

The loss dropped the Golden Eagles to 3-2 in the CVC and 14-7 overall.

Ultimately it was a disastrous second quarter that spelled doom for West Hills Lemoore as the Lady Eagles managed to score just 3 points in what may be their worst scoring output in a quarter ever. They only scored 7 points in the opening stanza but also held the Lady Giants to 12.

The two teams played pretty much even in the second half, but it was much too late for the Eagles to mount a comeback. Again Michelle Brown led all Eagles with 16 points. Tarah Pires had 9 points while Shay Brown chipped in with 8 points.

Up until now the Golden Eagles were ranked 12th in the California Northern Region Community College rankings. Ranked No. 1 in California is Fresno City College, whom the Golden Eagles lost on January 9. The two teams will play again, in Lemoore, on February 3.

West Hills next game is scheduled for January 27 at home against Taft College. Game time is 6 p.m.
