Two down and four to go. In the last two games, Lemoore’s offense has exploded for 83 points while its defense has been as downright stingy as Donald Trump’s barber. In the first two league contests, the Tigers have, given up just 6 points, all six  in last week’s West Yosemite League opener against Redwood.

The Tigers recorded the shutout in Thursday night’s game, a relatively easy 42-0 win over Hanford West, which improved Lemoore’s record to 2-0 in the WYL and 4-2 overall, the only losses coming against Clovis and Buchanan, two of the top powerhouses in the Central Section.

The exploding offense and stifling defense leaves many observers of local football thinking that perhaps the Tigers just may be in the driver’s seat as they face down the remaining WYL foes and keeping a wary eye on Hanford in what promises to be a thriller on Nov. 6 in Neighbor Bowl. Lemoore would like nothing more to win a second consecutive league crown, particularly if the title comes at the expense of the Bullpups, who incidentally aren’t doing so badly themselves.

Hanford played Friday night against El Diamante and is currently 1-0 in league and 5-0 overall. The Bullpups struggled in the early going against Hanford West last week, but eventually prevailed in a 55-27 victory.

Lemoore takes the next step when it hits the road again on Friday with a game against Golden West in Visalia.

Lemoore had plenty of heroes Thursday night, including Roger Wilson who ran back two punts for apparent touchdowns, only to see his second 50-yard touchdown late in the game called back on a penalty. His first came in the third quarter when he returned a punt 55-yards for a TD, adding insult to injury for the Huskies.

Once again, Allen Perryman, destined to dominate league, Central Section and state all-star teams, turned in another virtuoso performance, scoring on a 58-yard touchdown pass in the opening stanza as Lemoore took an early 7-0 lead. One of the other Perrymans, this one Trey, scored on a 41-yard touchdown run early in the second period. He scored again in the second half.

In the second quarter the talented receiver took in a Logan Ahlin pass for yet another TD, this one from 24 yards out and a 19-0 lead. The Tigers failed on a 2-point conversion attempt.

Lemoore’s kicker, Josh Roa also contributed to the onslaught, booting a 28-yard-field goal to give Lemoore a 22-0 lead.

Lemoore’s powerful defense just wasn’t giving up any ground to the Huskies. After holding Hanford West to a 3-and-out, Ahlin connected with Reggie Davis on a 71-yard TD pass and a 28-0 lead.

For the second straight game, Lemoore took advantage of the “Mercy Rule” running clock in the fourth quarter.
