Red Ribbon Week got off to a good start in the Lemoore Elementary School District this past week when Lemoore High School students on Monday (Oct. 24) served as role models for over 300 seventh graders at Liberty Middle School’s annual Character Conference.
Sponsoring the annual event was the Families and Schools Together (FAST) Federal Credit Union.
“The Lemoore High School students were outstanding role models for our students,” said Lemoore District Superintendent Cheryl Hunt, “and the well over 300 seventh grade students shared that the event was a positive experience for them.”
In 1988 the National Family Partnership (NFP) sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration and today, it serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
The celebration was held at all the district’s schools. At Cinnamon Elementary, students and staff held “dress up” days all week, and on Tuesday the school got a visit from the Lemoore Police Department as well as county ambulance service and the County Fire Department. Students got to talk with first responders and tour the vehicles.
On Thursday, students will get a visit from the sheriff department’s K-9 dog.
Meadow Lane’s principal, Rhett Kinney, said his school has been having Red Ribbon Relays every day at recess and a student council rally is scheduled for Friday afternoon. They’ve also had dress up days.
