District also sponsors forum for WHC Coalinga campus president

From West Hills College

The search for a new college president for West Hills College Coalinga has been narrowed down to three candidates.

The three well-qualified educators will meet the public at a series of open forums to be held on Dec. 12 at West Hills College Coalinga, during which the finalists will speak about their goals for WHCC and answer questions.

The finalists are: Dr. Lawrence Buckley, current Interim Vice President of Educational Services at West Hills College Coalinga; Dr. Kelly Cooper, current Associate Vice Chancellor of Connected Learning for the West Hills Community College District; and Brenda Thames, Vice President of Instruction at Modesto Junior College.

The three, 45-minute sessions will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room R10A/B on the WHCC Campus at 300 Cherry Lane in Coalinga. Each finalist will have 45 minutes to speak and answer questions, with 15 minute breaks between each forum.

The public and members of the WHCC staff, faculty and student body will have an opportunity to submit questions for the candidates and hear from them directly about their qualifications and goals for the position.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The finalists were selected from the top eight candidates who were interviewed by a committee following a national search.

Following Monday’s forums, the finalists will be interviewed on Dec. 13 by West Hills Community College District Chancellor Dr. Frank Gornick, who will then recommend one of them for the position. That recommendation will then go to the WHCCD Board of Trustees for approval at a future meeting.
