Lemoore High School’s 116th year began Wednesday morning as nearly 2,000 students ended their short summer and prepared for yet another year of English, math, history, athletics, and of course everything else that comes with a secondary education.

The Lemoore Elementary School District kicks off its school year on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Teachers and administration spent this week in professional development training and had a welcome back breakfast Friday morning.l

The local school got a fresh coat of paint, the most visible sign the main building where painters, over the summer, brightened up the historic structure. Other upgrades and construction are expected in the next few years, courtesy of last year’s bond, Measure L.

“Over the summer we completed the installation of a new well, restoring/painting the main building and within the next month will have completed a new data infrastructure project that will include new technology on campus and new bells, clocks and telephone system,” said Lemoore Superintendent Debbie Muro.

Muro said that as of Wednesday, the first day of school, 1,937 students were checked into classes.

Lemoore’s Middle College High School, a joint venture with West Hills College Lemoore, began Tuesday while as did the district’s alternative education program.

The district also hired a large flock of teachers including three new math teachers: Raymond Cannavo, Kimberly Siddall, Aaron Thron and English teacher Christina Pascual. Three new science teachers joined the staff. They include Jenna Gilbert, Meagan Evangelho, and John Vargas. Yvonne Vera Galindo joins the Special Education Department, Carl Bryson is a new agriculture teacher, and Edward Ortuza joins the school’s woodshop class.

Bernadette Bracy joins the Lemoore Middle College High School staff.

The district is also joining the online education fraternity. “We are looking forward to the opening of the Lemoore Online College Preparatory High School as another option for our students,” said Muro. “We are also in year three of implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support and are working very diligently to have systems of support in place to help make our students successful in school.
