Lemoore High School’s talented Speech Team cleaned up at Saturday’s (Nov. 4) Clovis North Tournament, the Valley’s second league tournament of the year. And for the first time in many years, the Tigers took first place.

In all, five LHS competitors won events: Maggie Franckhauser (Original Advocacy), Joshua Leavitt (Original Oratory), Isac Danhauer (Oratorical Interpretation and Thematic Interpretation), and Keziah Willis (Dramatic Interpretation).

Fifteen LHS competitors made it to the finals.

The school’s junior varsity squad turned in an impressive showing as two Tigers won their events: Kayla Antiporda, Champion of Humorous Interpretation and Champion of Original Prose and Poetry Michael Caldera.

“We have our last league speech tournament of the year before playoffs start Saturday, December 2 at Clovis High School,” said LHS Coach Matthew Martins, the school’s U.S. and world history teacher.

The team practices Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3-5:30 p.m. and students are welcome to be a part of our team and learn what they can from this academic experience.
