Lemoore’s varsity girls’ volleyball team has plenty of returning players, including ten seniors in the lineup as it hopes to challenge for the West Yosemite League title this year. The squad has already won its first two games as it heads into a Tuesday (Aug. 21) showdown at Tulare Union.

The Tigers also have a new coach, but a familiar face from Lemoore High’s volleyball past. Valarie Burkett (formerly Gobby) has taken the reins of Lemoore’s volleyball program this year and has already led her experienced-rich team to victories over Sunnyside (Aug. 14) and Edison (Aug. 16).

West Yosemite League action begins Sept. 11 with a match at Redwood followed by a trip to El Diamante. Lemoore’s next home match is Aug. 23 against Kingsburg.

The Tigers are top heavy with seniors this year. Four sophomores also made the team.

Lemoore had an impressive season a year ago, finishing 18-12 overall, but struggled a bit in the WYL, finishing in third place with a 6-6 mark. The Tigers beat Tulare Union in the first round of the playoffs before dropping its second game to Bakersfield Christian 3-1.
