Many Kings County residents may miss out on benefits of WIC thinking they may not qualify

WIC supports healthier diets, promotes breastfeeding and better infant feeding practices, and may help reduce childhood obesity, so say officials with the Kings County WIC (Women, Infants & Children).

Each year hundreds of Kings County residents miss out on the benefits provided by WIC because they think they don't qualify.

Since the introduction of improved food packages better aligned with current dietary guidance, WIC participants are purchasing and consuming more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy.  The WIC program benefits local farmers, grocers, and health care systems, too.

Kings County residents may qualify if they:

  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just had a baby, or:
  • Have a child under the age 5; and
  • Have a low to medium income; and
  • Live in California

Newly pregnant women, migrant workers, and working families are encouraged to apply.

WIC Provides:

  • Nutrition Tips and Health Information
  • Breastfeeding Support
  • Checks for healthy foods (like fruits and vegetables)
  • Referrals to medical providers and community services

You may automatically qualify for WIC if you receive Medi-Cal, CalFresh (Food Stamps) or CalWorks (TANF) benefits.  Call WIC today to see if you are eligible and to make an appointment.  Call 559-582-0180.  Kings County WIC has offices in Hanford, Lemoore, Corcoran, Avenal and Kettleman City.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
