Sports Roundup: Tiger volleyball notch WYL win. Water polo at El Diamante

Lemoore’s varsity girls’ volleyball team, all knotted up at two games apiece, finally broke through for its first West Yosemite League victory of the season, outlasting visiting Golden West 15-12 in the final and deciding set. The Tigers had their hands full with the Trailblazers Tuesday night in the school’s Event Center, dropping the first set 18-25, winning the second 25-18, splitting the next two – 11-25 and 25-12 – before outlasting the Blazers in the deciding match.

It was Shelby Saporetti that scored the match-winning point in the final set that provided the Tigers with their first league win against a pair of early losses. Lemoore was blanked 3-0 by in a Sept. 11 match at Redwood High School and fell 3-0 to El Diamante on Sept. 12.

Lemoore improved to 7-7 on the season and 1-2 in the WYL.

Lemoore has a match tonight (Thursday, Sept. 20) in Lemoore. The game is expected to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Water Polo

Lemoore’s boys’ and girls’ water polo teams continue WYL play today (Sept. 20) with matches against El Diamante. The Tiger boys’ team is 0-1 in the league and 5-7 overall. The Tigers had a 12-10 win over Hanford West on Sept. 11 and lost 18-2 in a match at Redwood High on Tuesday (Sept. 18).

The Lemoore varsity girls are 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the WYL. The Lady Tigers dropped a 0-6 match to Hanford West at Lemoore on Sept. 11 and a 10-4 game at Redwood High School. The girls will join the boys today for a contest at El Diamante.

The ladies will travel to Arroyo Grande beginning Friday for a weekend tournament. They are expected to open with Arroyo Grande tomorrow (Sept. 21) at about 1 p.m.
