LHS Sports Roundup: Tiger volleyball drops close match, tennis team crushes Bullpups

Lemoore’s varsity volleyball team, following an impressive run at the Sunnyside Classic Tournament, returned to the rigors of West Yosemite League competition on Oct. 4, dropping a 3-0 contest to visiting Redwood High School. On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Tigers, despite taking the Miners to four games, lost to a visiting El Diamante team 3-1.

The Tigers, 13-12 overall and 2-5 in the demanding WYL, will be at Golden West on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. match, and then on Oct. 16 sojourns to Mt. Whitney High School travel for another Visalia showdown.

On Oct. 17 the Tigers will host Hanford in their regular season finale.

In Tuesday's home match against El Diamante, the Tigers dropped their opener, a 26-24 thrill before falling 25-14 in the second game. Lemoore rebounded in the third set, streaking past the Miners 25-21, but dropped a heartbreaker in the fourth set, 25-18.

Water Polo

Lemoore’s next water polo contests are Thursday, Oct. 11 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Lemoore High School pool as Redwood comes to visit. The Tigers hope to emerge from the WYL cellar, but they’ll have to beat the 5-0 and league-leading Rangers to do it.

Lemoore’s boys’ team is 5-15 overall. Lemoore recently dropped an 18-10 contest to Hanford on Oct. 2.

The Lemoore girls’ water polo team sports an overall 6-15 mark and is currently 2-3 in the WYL where the Redwood Rangers remain dominant with a 5-0 record.

The Tigers dropped three of four matches in the Sunnyside Water Polo Tournament. The did defeat Buchanan High School 7-3 in their final matchup.

Tennis

In girls’ tennis action the Tigers are coming off a trio of impressive victories, their latest an easy 8-1 win over visiting Hanford in the season WYL finale. The Tigers also beat Golden West and Mt. Whitney, improving to 7-3 in the WYL and 13-6-1 overall. The Tigers remain in second place behind league-leading Redwood’s impressive 10-0 league record. 

Madison Kuntz was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in her match Tuesday on the Lemoore courts. The Tigers defeated visiting Hanford 8-1 to complete a 7-3 West Yosemite League season.

The Lemoore ladies conclude their WYL season Tuesday (Oct. 9) with a home match against Hanford, and they were playing on all cylinders, easily dispatching the Bullpups.

Lemoore lost only one singles match but got easy wins from Madison Kuntz, 6-1, 6-2 and Aliana Cabuhat, a 6-0, 6-1 winner. Jenny Paez, Christina Nguyen, and Sophia Gregoria lost just four points between them as they easily got past Hanford. In three doubles matches, the Tigers gave up just two points.
