The Lemoore Rotary Club awarded $5,550 to the Friends of the Kings County Library to purchase children’s books for the Lemoore Branch Library. Current Rotary Club president Charlotte Meade attended the October 11 meeting of Friends of the Kings County Library to present two grant awards.

Rotarians went all out for kid’s books with a grant of $3,000 from the Lemoore Rotary Club and $2,550 from FORD 5230, a regional Rotary grant fund.

When announcing the grants, Meade stated that “A primary focus of the Rotary Club of Lemoore is to support literacy in Lemoore. When we learned of plans to expand our Library, we saw it as an opportunity to support all the community, especially children.”

Alice Quesada, vice president of the Friends and founding member Wilma Humason accepted the funds and noted that it would go a long way to purchase books for preschoolers to teens. “We are very fortunate to have strong support from our communities and are very grateful for such a generous grant from Rotary,” said Humason.

The seven libraries in Kings County are preparing for improvements and expansions.  The Lemoore Branch Library has plans to double its size by expanding into the former county courtrooms on the east side of the Library.  No date has been set to start construction.
