Lemoore High School’s winter athletic season begins in earnest this week as basketball, soccer, and wrestling teams open their respective winter campaigns. Leading the way is the Lady Tigers girls’ basketball team, taking on Hoover High School in Fresno.

Next up is Coach Eric Bow’s varsity boys’ soccer team as it leaves the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium for its season opener at Kingsburg on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

The Lady Tigers’ soccer team will host the Vikings in Tiger Stadium the same night. The girls’ team, a perennial winner, had somewhat of an “off” season a year ago, posting an overall 12-11-3 mark and disappointing 3-7-2 mark in the West Yosemite League. The Lady Tigers won their playoff opener, a 6-0 blanking of Yosemite before dropping out of the playoffs with a 2-1 overtime loss to Independence High School.

The boys had an impressive run at a league title, but fell short, comping a 7-4-1 mark in league play. The Tigers were 14-8-4 overall, good enough for third place in the WYL.

LHS Wrestling Schedule

Coach Marcio Botelho’s wrestlers open their season on Saturday, Nov. 24 with the girls’ squad travels to Visalia for the annual Redwood Invitational Girls Wrestling Tournament, which begins promptly at 7 a.m. The Lady Tigers keep busy in the early going with a Nov. 28 match at Coalinga and then a Nov. 29 match in the Last Girl Standing Wrestling Tournament.

The boys’ team is expected to open its season on Dec. 1  with a dual match and follow that up with a visit to Dinuba High for the junior varsity duals. Earlier this year the Tigers were forced into a virtual tie with Redwood for the WYL championship but ended up sending five wrestlers to the California State Wrestling Tournament in Bakersfield. Will Kloster advanced to the consolation bracket, winning three times before dropping out of contention.

Tiger Coach Joel Sligh will lead his varsity hoopsters to a Nov. 21 home opener against Tulare Western. Game time is 7:30 p.m. after the Lady Tigers open their season on Monday in a game at Hoover High School.

Coach Jennifer Anderson’s Tigers hope to improve upon their 6-17 overall record last season and their 4-9 WYL mark.

The varsity boys had a mediocre season last year, finishing 16-12 overall and 6-6 in the WYL.
