Sports Roundup: Tiger boys slip past Western, Lady Tigers struggle at Hoover in teams' openers

The Lemoore’s boys’ basketball team got off to a solid start Wednesday night in the Tigers’ Event Center, beating visiting Tulare Western 67-59 in its season opener. Lemoore’s ladies didn’t fare as well, dropping their opener on Monday 76-39 at Hoover High School.

The Lady Tigers hope to rebound on Tuesday when they host Hanford West at 6 p.m. in the Event Center before hitting the road for the annual Corcoran Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament. The Tigers open at 3 pm. On Tuesday with Wasco High School.

The Lady Tigers were never really in the game, falling behind 48-17 at the half against the Patriots.

Lemoore’s boys hope to continue their winning ways in the Immanuel Tournament of Champions. The Tigers open their tourney run on Nov. 29 against Bakersfield Christian. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

In soccer action the boys’ and girls’ teams had their season openers postponed due to the poor valley air quality, but the girls are scheduled to play in the Lady Tiger Soccer Tournament which begins Nov. 30 in Lemoore.

The boys will also enter tournament play, visiting Paso Robles for its annual soccer tourney, beginning Nov. 30.
