Sports Roundup: Lady Tigers crush visiting Pioneers 58-19. Boys' soccer wins in overtime

Lemoore’s varsity girls' hoops team crushed visiting Mt. Whitney Tuesday night in the Tigers’ Event Center as Amaya Sanchez led the way with 17 points as her team led from start to finish. In Visalia, Lemoore’s boys held on for a 57-52 victory over the Pioneers to improve to 4-0 in the West Yosemite League.

Kyla Wiley chipped in with 11 points while MJ Bresenio had nine points. Maricella Perez and Sophia each scored seven points as the Tigers improved to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in the WYL.

The Tigers tackle league-leading Hanford Thursday night in the Lady Bullpups gym. The Bullpups are 4-0 in the WYL and 14-4 overall. Lemoore returns home next week with a  Jan. 23 with a game against Redwood then host El Diamante on Jan. 25 contest.

Lemoore’s boys, currently leading the league, couldn’t run away from the Pioneers but managed to do enough to keep them at bay. Lemoore outscored Mt. Whitney 32 n the first half to take control. A weak third quarter proved indecisive before the Tigers finally prevailed in the final minutes.

The Tigers host the Bullpups Thursday night (Jan. 17). Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Tigers next league contest is Jan. 23 at Redwood High School but are slated to play Porterville on Jan. 19 in the Edison Super Saturday Showcase.

In Lemoore boys’ soccer action, the Tigers trailed Mt. Whitney most of Tuesday night’s match but managed to tie the game in the final three minutes. Lemoore dominated the game with ball control and possession but just couldn’t get the ball in before finally breaking the tie with just seconds left in the first overtime period to win 2-1.

Lemoore improved to 3-1 in the WYL and are 9-4-2 overall as the Tigers prepare to take on Hanford Thursday, Jan. 17 in Bullpup Stadium.

The Lady Tigers dropped a 0-2 decision to the Pioneers in Visalia. Lemoore fell to 0-3 in the WYL and are 4-7-2 overall. The ladies will host Hanford tomorrow night (Jan. 17) in Tiger Stadium.
