Lemoore’s boys’ and girls’ water polo teams were hoping to return to their revamped pool and christen it with a pair of wins. Unfortunately, the christening may have to wait. Both LHS varsity teams dropped their first home matches of the season in their own pool, continuing their assault on the West Yosemite League’s cellar.

The school’s pool, originally built in 1991, received more of a new structural undercoating than a facelift. It looks about the same, other than new covered bleachers at the pool’s west end.

The varsity girls gave it all they had in the 5:30 p.m. match, falling behind early to the visiting El Diamante Miners 6-1. The tenacious team mounted a fourth-period comeback, scoring three times before finally succumbing 8-4.

The Lemoore girls fell to 0-6 in the WYL and are currently 2-14 overall. The Lady Tigers’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, again in the LHS pool against Golden West. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Coach Josh Acosta’s varsity boys scored15 goals, but gave up 21 goals as the Miners beat back a Tiger challenge to win 21-15.

Lemoore fell to 1-6 in the WYL and is 5-18 overall. Lemoore also hosts Golden West on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
