Lemoore’s varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams got their West Yosemite League campaigns underway on a positive note. The Lady Tigers improved to 9-8 overall and 1-0 in the WYL after beating visiting Redwood Wednesday night in the school’s event center 57-50, while the boys took the early WYL lead with a 76-73 win over the Rangers in Visalia.
Behind 35-32 at the half, Lemoore’s boys played even with the Rangers with a 19-19 third quarter before getting hot in the final frame, outscoring the Rangers 25-19 to beat the host Rangers. The Tigers hope to revive their title hopes after a disappointing 4-12 preseason.
The boys stay on the road. On Friday the Tigers visit El Diamante (8-11, 01) while the Lemoore ladies continue their home cooking as they host the Miners in a 7:30 p.m. game in the Lemoore High School Event Center.
The Lady Tigers more than held their own Wednesday night, using a 15-8 second-quarter advantage to keep the visiting Rangers at bay for most of the game. Lemoore outscored Redwood 16-15 to take the early WYL league lead.
