A former Lemoore High School volleyball standout and college athlete this week was appointed as the new head coach of her former college team. Notre Dame de Namur University Athletics Director Josh Doody announced that the team’s interim head coach, Margaret Billingsley, will assume the Argonauts head volleyball coaching job.

Billingsley, known by friends as Maggie, was a standout student-athlete and a four-year starter for the Tigers volleyball team from 2010-2013. During her tenure, under then-coach Rachel Taylor, the Tigers excelled, winning 72 matches while losing just 33.

Billingsley was also a starter for the 2012 team that lost to West Yosemite League rival El Diamante in the Valley title game. That year the Tigers were 24-6 and 11-1 in the WYL. She was also the league’s 2012 Most Valuable Player.

In 2011, Lemoore won the WYL title. The Tigers were 25-5 overall and 11-1 in league play before dropping a 3-1 match to Exeter in the Division 2 valley championships. She was also an All-WYL first-team selection in 2013, and during her LHS career, she led the Tigers in assists with 418 and was second in aces (21) and digs (190).

Billingsley, on an interim basis, took the reins as the Argonauts head coach last summer after spending the previous season as an assistant coach.  This past fall, she helped guide the Argonauts to a victory in her first career match and later to wins over Pacific West rivals Dominican and Holy Names.

After four years at Notre Dame de Namur, Billingsley,24, earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and is currently working on a master’s degree in business.

"I am really excited for this opportunity," Billingsley said.  "This past season taught me a lot, and I believe in this team going forward.  I have grown from these experiences, and we will only continue to grow together as a program from here."

She’s currently working with players as part of the spring season, getting her recruits ready for the new season. “It’s less competitive, and it’s more about training and getting ready for the summer and fall,” she said.

Before starting her coaching career, Billingsley was a standout setter at NDNU from 2014-17.  A four-year starter, she holds the school record in assists with 2.958 and ranks 9th in Pacific West Conference history.  Billingsley also ranked second at NDNU for career service aces with 99, which is the 13th best career total in the PacWest.

In addition to her coaching duties at NDNU, Billingsley is the head coach for the Encore Volleyball Club 13s team and assists with the 15s.  She has also held positions at the College of San Mateo, helping with their strength and conditioning and assisting with the sand volleyball program.
