Tiger basketball teams fall in West Yosemite League action as season nears finish line
The varsity boys fell to 3-3 in the West Yosemite League, losing 66-55 to visiting Redwood High School, a team the Tigers beat 76-73 in the league’s opening salvo on Jan. 15. In Visalia Friday night, the Lady Tigers fell to 4-2 in the WYL, dropping a surprising 51-42 decision to the Rangers, a team they also beat 57-50 earlier this month at home.
The Lady Tigers remain in second place at 4-2 in the WYL and are 13-10 overall. The ladies, thanks to Friday night’s surprising loss, fell two full games behind league-leading Hanford (6-0). Overall the Lady Tigers are 13-10. The Tiger boys continued their slide, falling to 7-16 overall.
The Lady Tigers travel to Visalia on Feb. 4 for a matchup against El Diamante while the boy’s team will host the Miners at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the Lemoore High School Event Center.
Leading the Tigers’ charge Friday night was Will Schelde, who led his team with 14 points, including a pair of three-point baskets. The Tigers fell behind early despite Schalde’s efforts and the contributions of Beunju Moon and Chris Taylor, each of whom contributed 11 points in the game. John Mora finished with eight points, and Samuel Martinez had six points.
The Tigers could not erase a 32-25 first half Redwood advantage, falling behind even further when the Rangers outscored Lemoore 22-14.
On the girls’ side, Lemoore kept it close, trailing just 23-19 at the half. However, Redwood outscored the Tigers 28-23 in the second half despite 19 fourth-quarter points from Lemoore.
