Lemoore’s unrelenting varsity girls’ basketball team played admirably against its first-round opponent, Fresno High School, keeping even with the North Yosemite League’s Warriors for much of the game, even jumping out to a respectable lead to start the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately, the Tigers lead disappeared about halfway through the final period, and Fresno rebounded to beat Lemoore 47-43 to end Lemoore’s season. The Tigers, who finished second – behind Hanford in the West Yosemite League race with a 7-3 record – couldn’t quite overcome Fresno’s final quarter surge.

Indeed, Wednesday night’s game in Lemoore’s Event Center was close. The two teams traded points evenly at 12-12 in the first period before the Tigers jumped out to a scary 24-22 lead at the half. But Fresno outscored Lemoore 14-8 in the third quarter and could quite catch up in the final period.

The Warriors will face Division 3 No. 1 seed Porterville on Friday. Kyla Wiley led the Tigers with 15 points. Lemoore had a solid season, and in addition to its WYL 7-3 mark, were 16-12 overall.
