Lemoore baseball wins again and ladies fall in preseason as tournament play nears
It didn't hurt the Tigers' chances either that their starting pitcher, Noah Guzman, pitched nearly a complete game, allowing just one hit to the visiting Apaches. Guzman struck out six batters and walked only four to get the Tigers' latest win.
Lemoore hits the road Saturday for a 6 p.m. game at Fowler High School, and then on March 4 will travel to Selma in the continuation of Central Valley Diamond Classic.
Lemoore's offense struggled somewhat, but it put together at least five hits and scored the only run it would need to win. Anfernee Murrieta, Nick Brewster, Jimmy Caldera, Aaron Edwards, and Nacho Carrillo each had a hit for the Tigers. It was Caldera's single that drove home the first-inning score.
On Tuesday, Lemoore's varsity girls' softball team fell to 0-2 on the season, dropping a 14-5 contest to visiting Dinuba High School. The big giveaway occurred at the top of the third when Dinuba scored nine runs to take a 13-0 lead.
The Tigers responded with five runs of their own in the fourth, but it was a little too late as the game ended after five innings.
The Lady Tigers have a 2 p.m. matchup with Frontier High School in the first round of the Bakersfield Driller Softball Tournament. Thursday's opener includes a 3:30 p.m. game against Tehachapi. The Tigers also have games scheduled for March 6-7.
