Approximately 500 protesters peacefully marched around the Hanford Civic Center block Saturday afternoon (June 6). Saturday’s march was the second such march in Kings County since the death of George Floyd, an African American man, killed two weeks ago by a Minneapolis police officer.

Hanford’s protesters joined mostly peaceful protests around the country as the ongoing demonstrations – from Washington D.C to Los Angeles – have increasingly become more peaceful following violence in the weeks following Floyd’s brutal death.

On June 1, approximately 300 energetic young protesters walked peacefully from downtown Lemoore to Hanford Armona Road before returning to the downtown area. They also stopped at the Lemoore Police Department.

One spectator said Saturday that Hanford's protest was probably the most significant protest he had seen in nearly 40 years in Hanford.

Several speakers addressed the crowd, including the area’s congressman, TJ Cox, and Hanford Police Chief Parker Sever. Cox and others joined the protestors, taking a knee during a moment of silence.
