Candidates step up as late additions round out the field in Lemoore City Council districts

There were several late additions in Lemoore’s upcoming city council election slated for November 3. One candidate won’t even have to campaign for his District D seat, a position held for the last eight years by the current mayor, Eddie Neal.

Both Neal and appointed councilmember Chris Schalde – in District C – chose not to run this year. First-time candidate David Orth, a resident in District D, is unopposed and will slide right into his new council seat on election day.

Longtime West Hills College Chancellor Frank Gornick will face some competition in District C from newcomer Thomas Lee Nix.

In District E, Patricia Mathews, who got in early, was joined by Gwendolyn Landrus and Guadalupe Capozzi in the extended campaign filing period.

District B has three candidates in the race. Ed Martin, a retired educator, sat on the city council for 18 years and served eight years as mayor. Joining Martin in the race are a retired police officer, Jim Chaney, and former Lemoore City Clerk Mary “Janie” Venegas.
