Stratford Elementary School students who recently returned to class were treated to a big surprise on Wednesday (Aug. 11) as a local farming organization donated 306 backpacks – filled with school supplies – to students returning for the beginning of the new school year.

The organization, Sandridge Partners, also donated 24 laptop computers to the school’s 8th-grade class.

Sandridge Partners, based in Buttonwillow, has been generous to the Stratford community, said one of its representatives, Ricky Hernandez. “It has farmland throughout the Stratford Area and the Central Valley. Standridge Partners would like to be a great partner and a great neighbor to this community, to this town, and to the kids here in Stratford,” he said.

Hernandez also said the students’ reactions were overwhelming. “It was fantastic," said Hernandez.  "There were amazed looks on the kids faces and the principal, Kristina Gonzales.

Sandridge Partners has also donated 300 turkeys to Stratford during a November turkey drive for a community drive-thru, and for Christmas, the kids at Stratford Elementary kids received toys.

For Stratford Elementary’s graduation, Standridge Partners gave 10 eighth-grade graduating students a $1,000 check. “They gave out $10,000 to 10 kids,” said Hernandez.
