A Kings County Deputy, while patrolling 17th Avenue and Kent Avenue in rural Kings County, observed a GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling on 17th Avenue with what he observed were several mechanical violations. The deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the GMC.

According to the sheriff’s department, the driver initially provided a false name, using the name of his ex-girlfriend’s brother. The deputy later determined the suspect’s real name was Nicholas Mason. According to the deputy’s research, the suspect had four active Kern County warrants out for his arrest. Charges included drugs sales and a violation of Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).

Passengers in the vehicle included suspects Robert Lovest and Kristin Peterson. Lovest initially provided a false name, and only after the Kings County Jail ran a check from his fingerprints, was his real name discovered. Peterson, according to the deputy’s research, was on active probation out of Kern County and was subject to search.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered two baggies of Methamphetamine weighing 5.8 grams and 0.8 grams respectively. The deputies also discovered drug paraphernalia along with three bank cards that did not match the names of anyone in the vehicle.

Deputies tracked down the owner of the bank cards who informed them he was the victim of a vehicle burglary a week prior when his bank cards were stolen.

Deputies arrested suspects Mason, Peterson, and Lovest and booked them into the Kings County Jail.

Deputies booked Mason for possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, providing a false name, and identity theft. He was later released into the custody of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, for his outstanding warrants.
