Central Section champions, Lemoore Tigers, dominate All-West Yosemite League honors; Ty Chambers garners Most Valuable Player
While writing this, Lemoore’s 12-1 WYL champs, who just a week ago, crushed unbeaten Central Valley Christian 62-46 in the first round of playoffs, were on their way to the Division 2 AA state playoff game in Oakland, where they will tackle the McClymond’s Warriors, an 11-1 team from the Bay Area.
The winner goes on to play the winner of the Downey High School and Mater Dei Catholic High School in the Division II title game on Dec. 9 at Saddleback College.
Earning the league’s top honor was Tiger quarterback Ty Chambers, who ran away with the league’s most valuable offensive player award. The six touchdown passes Chambers tossed in the win over CVC certainly didn’t hurt his chances for the award.
In addition to his six TDs against CVC, Chambers threw for 36 touchdowns on the season, putting him in rarified air in Lemoore’s long history of football excellence.
Chambers completed 140 passes in 219 attempts for 2,707 yards as he helped lead his talented team to WYL and Division II Central Section championships.
Lineman of the year Isaiah Morales led the Tigers with 56 assisted and unassisted tackles. He also managed to record seven sacks on the season to go along with his team-leading tackles.
The league’s top kicker was no surprise as state-ranked Jayden Evangelo, a special teams kicker, contributed 97 points via extra points and field goals.
Other first-teamers include Tiger guard and center Jackson Emerson, receiver Demel Turner, and defensive back Kobe Green.
