Is Lemoore's Municipal Golf Course for sale?

Is someone trying to buy Lemoore’s Municipal Golf Course? Council members, after Tuesday night’s (June 18) regular session, were scheduled to meet in closed session for property negotiations with the Tachi Yokut Tribe, which owns The Palace, adjacent to the Santa Rosa Rancheria. The topic of discussion? The golf course.

The golf course was expanded in 1990-91 to 18 holes from the original nine holes located at Iona and Lemoore avenues. Over the years the course has often earned a profit, but sometimes not quite enough to pay the annual debt service, which this year will be around $289,000. The golf course has been subsidized often, including by the Lemoore Redevelopment Agency, which was eliminated last year by the state. With the elimination of the Redevelopment Agency, any debt service in future years will be paid for by the general fund.

According to Council Member John Gordon, who wouldn’t confirm the subject or topic of the closed door session, said there has been interest from an outside party. “We’ve been approached by someone…and I think we have an obligation to listen,” he said.

Gordon also says the golf course is not a “burning” issue with him. He’s been pleased with the efforts of the golf course management team led by course manager Rich Rhoads. “I’m very happy with what Rich has been doing,” said Gordon.

This year, according to the budget, the golf course is expected to generate an expected gross income of $1,199,973 with gross expenditures of $990,985 providing a net income of $208,988.
