Following weeks of preparation, the Hanford Lowe’s completed a community service project at Lemoore High School Saturday, replacing nearly 70 benches as just one of many projects done annually by Lowe’s stores across the Valley and country.

Dan Larkin, the Lowe’s Hanford representative was on hand to help a number of store employees, volunteers and a bunch of Lemoore High School students replace the aging benches in the hallways of Lemoore High School.

He told The Leader that the high school project is one of many projects they do to give back to the community.  Larkin, who spearheaded the project for Lowes always tries to get local people involved in the various projects, including the students from Lemoore High School.

He said the students worked hard and learned much from the experience.

Lemoore High Superintendent Debbie Muro had words of praise for Lowes. "LHS is lucky to have great community support," she said. "Companies like Lowe's that reach out to us make it easier for us to serve the youth in our schools. We love this type of partnership."

The students get high school community service for the project and learn some valuable skills in the process. They also received a Lowes Heroes t-shirt and lunch when it was all over after about four hours of work.

Larkin said a lot of preparation went into the project. Store officials visited Lemoore High School on several occasions to measure, ask about colors and more. The boards were cut and painted in the store prior to being brought to the high school on Saturday.

When it was all over Saturday, students and volunteers all signed the bottom of one of the boards and it was the last one installed.
