Cayci Allison of the Lemoore Future Farmers of America, was selected as the top finalist for the National FFA organization’s national proficiency award in Veterinary Science, Entrepreneurship/Placement.

Allison was one of only four persons who competed for this aware at the national finals held Oct. 30 through Nov. 2 during the 86th annual FFA convention and expo in Louisville, Kentucky.

Proficiency awards recognize outstanding student achievement in agribusiness gained through establishment of a new business, working for an existing company or otherwise gaining hands-on experience. The Veterinary Science – Entrepreneurship/Placement Award is one of 49 proficiency program areas in which FFA members can participate to develop valuable experience and leadership skills at the local, state and national levels.

Allison has dreamt of becoming a veterinarian since she was a child and today, she has the opportunity to work at a local animal clinic. As a freshman, her job was to clean cages and kennels and laundry. Fast forward four years and her responsibilities have grown to include assisting in surgeries and with emergencies. Allison plans on pursuing an advanced degree in veterinary medicine and return to the local animal clinic. She is supported by her parents, Allison Holmes and Steve Allison and FFA advisors Howard Clarke and Marybeth Hearn.

This award is sponsored by American Veterinary Medical Association, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. In recognition of her being a finalist, each person received a plaque and $500. Allison received an additional $500 for being the national winner.
