It was another successful Thanksgiving dinner at the Senior Citizens Center as about 150 volunteers put in hours of hard work and preparation for the 13th Annual Community Dinner held Thursday.
According to one of the chief organizers, Walt Kendall, the volunteers manage to serve up 2,013 meals.
“The volunteers that worked were wonderful,” said Kendall, who has been with the community dinner since its inception. “It was heartwarming to see them eagerly working to provide free meals to the community. Most of them indicated they want to return next year.”
Included in the total were 300 meals sent to Avenal and 150 to Kettleman City. Kendall said that 333 persons were fed Thanksgiving meals at the Senior Center. “We sent 490 meals to people that requested home delivery and we had 740 meals taken out.”
The Tachi Palace and Casino was one of the key supporters of the annual dinner.
