Tigers take home Karen Wood Invitational Tourney title to open basketball campaign

It was a productive weekend opening for Lemoore’s girls’ basketball team and former Tiger coach Karen  Wood would have been proud. Lemoore’s Ladies won the Karen Wood Tournament on Saturday by beating Madera 51-41.

The Tigers continued the solid play, beating Independence High School 51-31 Tuesday night in the LHS Event Center to improve to 4-0 on the year. Saturday’s victory in the West Hills College Lemoore Golden Eagle Arena, coupled with an easy 61-22 Friday win over Central Valley Christian, put the Tigers at 2-0 on this young season. Lemoore began play in the prestigious Holiday Tournament which began Wednesday night at Hoover High School.

Wood was the Tigers’ longest reigning girls' basketball coach. She won several titles and at one point was the Central Section’s leader in victories over a career.

Against Madera, the Tigers had a tough time holding a scary 31-29 edge after three quarters, but a run in the final quarter, as the Tigers outscored Madera 20-12, put the finishing touches on Lemoore’s second victory.
