McGlothlin was appointed to replace Pedro Avila, who left the district to take a position with a community college district in Fresno. Before assuming the interim role, McGlothlin worked as a counselor at WHCC.

Her vision is to increase communication with between students and faculty, which will help keep students on track for graduation.

“My experience as a counselor brings a perspective to the position that we haven’t had in the past,” said McGlothlin. “Our department has already been working on the new student success initiatives, and the college has been doing priority registration for two years. As the vice president, I have a terrific staff that wants to help students succeed and sees the value of doing this as a team.”

She has been on three accreditation committees and was a lead faculty member in developing a common assessment test, a tool developed through collaboration with the 11 C6 colleges.

“Sandy is committed to student access and success in higher education,” said Goldsmith. “She will play a key role in our strategic student services initiative that will result in improved academic attainment for our students.”
