West HIlls College names new Vice President of Student Services

“Sandy McGlothlin’s work with West Hills College is distinguished with more than 18 years’ experience in student services that has provided her with a deep understanding of the community we serve, the students who walk our halls and our culture of innovation,” said Carole Goldsmith, president of WHCC.
McGlothlin was appointed to replace Pedro Avila, who left the district to take a position with a community college district in Fresno. Before assuming the interim role, McGlothlin worked as a counselor at WHCC.
Her vision is to increase communication with between students and faculty, which will help keep students on track for graduation.
“My experience as a counselor brings a perspective to the position that we haven’t had in the past,” said McGlothlin. “Our department has already been working on the new student success initiatives, and the college has been doing priority registration for two years. As the vice president, I have a terrific staff that wants to help students succeed and sees the value of doing this as a team.”
She became the overseer of the Student Success and Support Program in 1998 and also began serving on the Curriculum Committee in the same year. She has been on three accreditation committees and was a lead faculty member in developing a common assessment test, a tool developed through collaboration with the 11 C6 colleges.
“Sandy is committed to student access and success in higher education,” said Goldsmith. “She will play a key role in our strategic student services initiative that will result in improved academic attainment for our students.”
Outside of her work at WHCC, McGlothlin serves on the Board of Directors for the Coalinga Regional Medical Center. She also volunteers with CASA, the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program for Fresno and Madera counties.
McGlothlin and her husband, Dave, live in Coalinga and have two adult children.
