Congressman Valadao nominates LHS youth to Naval Academy

Congressman David G. Valadao has announced that he has nominated four students from California for appointments to the United States Service Academies.

The nominees are seeking admission to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.

One of the nominations is for Lemoore High School senior Jason Aguilar who has applied to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.

A non-partisan Academy Advisory Board made up Central Valley veterans assisted with the nominations process. Factors such as academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical ability, and character of applicants were taken into consideration by the advisory board during the nomination process.

“It is an honor and a privilege to nominate some of our community’s strongest leaders for admission to the United States Service Academies,” Congressman Valadao stated. “Their dedication to our country and willingness to serve in our military is inspiring and greatly appreciated. I applaud their hard work and wish them the best of luck in all their future pursuits. “

Congressman Valadao’s nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy as the academies’ respective admissions boards decide who is offered appointment, and ultimately admitted. Some individuals may have been nominated to multiple academies; if they receive appointment offers from more than one academy, the student will decide which to attend.

The following is a list of nominees and their high schools in addition to Aguilar who got nominated:

Robert Moita from Wasco High School has been nominated to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy

Matthew Milligan from Jesuit High School has been nominated to the United States Merchant Marine Academy

Christina Louie from Selma High School has been nominated for the United States Naval Academy
