Former Lemoore City Manager passes away in Lindsay after long career in public service
Drennen was a public servant most of his life. He was the Lemoore City Manager for several years before leaving to take on the city manager’s job in Lindsay. He also worked in Kings County Public Works, the City of Lemoore as Public Works Director. He retired from the Lindsay City Manager position in 2003.
He spent 38 years as a city manager and was a strong leader, a fiscal conservative and a community champion. He loved spending time, trips and good food with friends; golfing, public arts and murals, Kiwanis, and loving his cats and dogs. He enjoyed peer recognition for his wisdom and insight. And a few years ago, Bill enjoyed his role as ""Lynn's husband"" due to her quilting success.
His proud accomplishments included: designing the Lemoore golf course and city council chambers; building Lindsay's Sweetbriar Plaza; presiding as the Visalia Macintosh Enthusiasts Group president for over 20 years; and serving as president of the Lindsay Kiwanis Club. Josh Jones designated Bill his mentor when Josh was awarded his Boy Scouts' Eagle Award.
The Lindsay Chamber of Commerce designated Bill "1997 Man of the Decade" for his countless years of dedicated service to the community of Lindsay. And in 2006, Bill (and Lynn) were appointed members of the "Laird's Household," by the Baron of Prestoungrange, Scotland, while attending the World Mural Conference.
Drennen's memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Paul Leavens on Saturday, February 15 at 11 am, at the Lindsay Christian Church, 120 E Frazier Ave., and Lindsay. There will be a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, Lynn requests donations in Bill's name to either: Lindsay Mural & Public Art Society, PO Box 223, Lindsay, CA 93247 or Kiwanis Club of Lindsay, Inc., PO Box 996, Lindsay, CA 93247.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Delmar Drennen and Glenda Mae Drennen of Hanford. Bill's wife, Lynn (Gantt) Drennen, will miss his larger-than-life bear hugs, wit, smiles, understanding, and sage counsel. She was privileged to have his adoration and love for over 34 years. Thanks for your messages of support, prayers and love for them both. God bless you and him on his journey home. Memorial comments may be left about Bill at www.BillDrennenMemorial.com. Thank you, Ted and Asih Olson for contributing the memorial website.
