Golden Eagles drop season finale Saturday but score big

West Hills College Lemoore girls' basketball, in only its second season as an establilshed sport at the Lemoore West Hills campus, may have lost its season finale to Merced College 69-52, but more importantly the Golden Eagles may just have sent notice to the rest of the Central Valley Conference and other state communty colleges, that they will be back next year better than ever.

The Golden Eagles completed a winning season, finishing with a record of 15-13 and 6-6 in the CVC, not bad for a program in only its second year of existence under head coach Andra Picchi.

On Saturday, in the Golden Eagle Arena, the ladies kept it close for much of the game. They fell behind early in the first half and trailedĀ 20-10 midway through the half. But Jordan Lasiter connected on a couple of jumpers to get the Eagles back in the game at 23-21. The Golden Eagles trailed at the half 33-25.

Again Merced, displaying a nice touch inside and outsideĀ the paint led 48-36, but again Lasiter grabbed a loose ball, drove the length of the court and sank a twisting layup to cut the lead to 48-30.

The Eagles weren't able to make up the difference. Lasiter finished with 11 points, but the Eagles' top scorer was Kalia Parker with 13 points. Jenny Gallegos finished with 12 points.
