Lady softballers fall victim to Redwood ace, fall farther behind in WYL race

 

All in all it was not a good day for Tiger softball. Lemoore’s bats fell silent Thursday on its own diamond as Redwood’s Crimson Kaiser became the second softball pitcher from Visalia to throw a no-hitter this week as the Rangers stunned Lemoore 18-0 in five innings.

It was a sad way to commemorate Cancer Awareness Week as the Lemoore ladies wore pink to signify cancer awareness. Relay for Life was scheduled this weekend in Tiger Stadium.

West Yosemite League Standings, MaxPreps

The West Yosemite League-leading Rangers improved to 8-1 in league play and are 19-6 overall. Hanford West and Golden West are tied for second place at 6-3. Lemoore is mired in fifth place with a 1-7 mark.

 

Kaiser struck out the first three batters she faced with only nine pitches. She finished the game with eight strikeouts and two walks. A pair of double plays allowed her to face only one batter more than the minimum of 15 in five frames.

 

Kaiser also batted 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Ashley Cervantes batted 3-for-3 as well and scored five times. Seven Rangers produced multiple hits.

Elizabeth Torres threw a no-hitter for Golden West on Tuesday in eight innings against Hanford.

Earlier Action

Lemoore's varsity girls' softball team mustered just three hits in Thursday's disappointing loss to Hanford West. The Huskies used a home run and five RBI from Makenna Young, who belted her home in the first inning for a quick 3-0 lead, to defeat the Tigers. Young also had a single with two more RBI in the third inning. The Huskies built a 12-0 lead by the time the umpires stopped the game in the fifth inning.

Lemoore fell to 1-6 in the West Yosemite League and are 3-14 overall. The Huskies improved to 5-2 in league play and 14-6 overall.

Lemoore's Ines Ramirez took the loss, giving up nine hits and 12 runs. Britney Antna had two hits for Lemoore while Yareya Garcia had a single.

Versus Hanford

Despite a whopping 12 hits on the day, Lemoore's underrated softball team dropped a disappointing 9-6 decision to Hanford on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-5 in the West Yosemite League and face Hanford West on Thursday before heading into Easter tournament action.Megan Ambriz, Katelyn Cole, and Ines Ramirez each had three hits for the Tigers Cole and Ramirez each drove in two runs apiece. Alyssa Vasquez had two hits for Lemoore in the losing cause. The Tigers were leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Bullpups came up with six runs to ice the game.

Despite a pair of RBIs from Alyssa Vasquez and a three-hit pitching performance from Ines Ramirez, Lemoore’s Tiger softballers dropped another West Yosemite League contest, this time to Golden West High School on Lemoore’s home turf.

Lemoore fell 4-2 to the Trailblazers Thursday afternoon on a picture perfect day for softball. The Tigers 1-0 after scoring in their half of the first inning. With Ramirez firing fastballs and allowing the Blazers just three hits, she struck out nine and walked just four.

But the Blazers managed to sneak four runs across in the sixth to take the lead and eventually win the game. Lemoore scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late as they fell to 1-4 in the West Yosemite League and 3-12 overall.

Golden West currently leads the league with a 4-1 mark and are tied with Redwood High School.

Britney Antuna went two for two for Lemoore while Vasquez had a hit and two RBI. Yareya Garcia had a pair of hits as Lemoore outhit the Blazers 6-4.

El Diamante

Despite tying El Diamante with four runs in the third inning, Lemoore's varsity girls' softball team could not hang on and dropped its West Yosemite League record to 1-3. The Miners scored four times in the fifth and held on to win 8-4 and improve to 2-2 in the WYL.

Britney Antuna went two for three in the game with a run scored and two RBI to lead the Tigers. Alyssa Vasquez had a hit, RBI and run scored and Mareya Ortiz had a hit and RBI.

Ines Ramirez suffered the loss for Lemoore, going six innings and giving up six hits and walked six. She struck out two El Diamante batters.

In action last week, Lemoore’s bats finally came alive as the Tigers amassed a total of 13 hits in a relatively easy softball win over Mt. Whitney Thursday afternoon on the Tigers’ home field. Lemoore, led by Yarely Garcia’s two hits, three runs and one RBI, picked apart the Pioneers 13-1.The win improve Lemoore’s West Yosemite League record to 1-2 following two devastating defeats last week. They improved to 3-10 overall. Mt. Whitney fell to 2-11 and 0-3 in the WYL.

Already leading 4-0 in the fifth inning the Tigers erupted for four more runs and then add an insurance run in the sixth inning to get past the Pioneers. In all eight different Tigers managed to get on base or collect a hit.

Alyssa Vazquez, in four trips to the plate, collected a pair of hits, a run, and one RBI. Britney Antuna had two hits in four appearances while Taylor Vasquez went two for three with two runs scored and two RBI.

Megan Ambriz also was two for three with an RBI and run scored.

Inez Ramirez went the distance for Lemoore, giving up nine hits, only one run and walked five. She struck out three Pioneers.

Lemoore hits the road again for a Tuesday meeting with El Diamante. The Miners, who won the WYL a year ago, are down this year coming into Tuesday’s game with a 1-2 league record. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
